Personal reflections on Assembly Park:
This was my home, the fortress of my youth. Assembly Park in Delavan, Wisconsin, is where I felt most comfortable in my own skin during the years I grew up, from the mid-1970s through the mid-1980s. I belonged here, alongside friends who became part of the fabric of who I was and who I would become. Assembly Park was the testing ground that carried us from childhood to adolescence and, eventually, toward adulthood.
This is where we graduated from 7-Up to 7 and 7s, from Sprite to Southern Comfort. Where our parents’ liquor cabinets became secret troves of quick swigs and careful refills from the faucet, always hoping no one would notice.
Life moved with the seasons. Endless summer nights filled with fireflies and mosquitoes gave way to cold winter evenings, bonfires, and laughter carried across the frozen surface of Lake Delavan.
We had everything we needed. We just didn’t realize how quickly it would all pass.
